Is My Bike Ready for a Triathlon?

Triathlon Event

Hello, I am looking to do my first half ironman. I have completed multiple sprints and a few Olympic distances, but have never trained for a half. My strengths are in running and swimming and am still learning a lot about the bike. My bike right now is an older Schwinn that I got from Craiglist 7 years ago. I have added aerobars and pedals. My concern is I will start ramping up my training and my bike won’t last. I don’t have the money to go buy a new bike right now. Will an older bike make it through the training and the race of a half ironman

Hi Anonymous,

Thank you for contacting TriathaNewbie.com!

Congratulations on deciding to try your first ironman Triathlon! Having a bike that can stand up to the miles needed to train for such an event is crucial. We think you should take your bike to your local bike store and ask them for their opinion. Because they are the professionals, and the bike is right in front of them, they will be able to give you the best advice.

Best of luck and keep us posted.

Be well.
