I am BRAND NEW, but want to set this goal now. I want to start tomorrow! I am very out of shape–yet, I’ve worked out on and off my whole life.

Thank you for contacting TriathaNewbie.com!
We’re thrilled that you are thinking about training now for a mini-triathlon. Below are some training guides that we think are very helpful for beginner triathletes. See which one works best for you and pick a training solution for yourself.
- Triathlon Swimming Made Easy: The Total Immersion Way for Anyone to Master Open-Water Swimming
- Training Plans for Multisport Athletes: Your Essential Guide to Triathlon, Duathlon, XTERRA, Ironman, and Endurance Racing
- Triathloning for Ordinary Mortals: And Doing the Duathlon Too
In February or so, start searching for an event (or email us and we’ll help you find one). Register for it immediately so that it will help you better focus on training during the blah-days, when you don’t feel like training (we run into them too). You should also consider joining a triathlon class at your local YMCA, community center or gym. Not only do they give you great advice for training, the people in the group provide each other support and encouragement.
Please let us know how it goes.
As always, if you haven’t trained for something this intense before and you have any health concerns, run the idea past your DR first.
