Diabetes and Triathlon
I am planning to do my first triathlon this summer. I have been training a little already, and I am starting to get more into it. My question is about nutrition. Everything I have read seems to emphasize getting a lot of carbs, especially after working out. My problem is that I am a diabetic, who needs to restrict my carbs. Do you have any suggestions on how I can maintain nutrition both during my training and the race, that will not adversely affect my diabetes?? By the way, I am a type 2 diabetic that is controled with oral meds and execise. Thanks for any suggestions!!

There is no one on our staff who deals with Diabetes, so we cannot give you any first-hand advice. Plus, we’re not doctors. We did go onto the National Diabetes website and found a section called Food and Fitness. You might want to check that out for some tips.
Also, and we’re sure we don’t have to tell you this, check in with your doctor. We’re sure that he/she can give you some advice specifically for your body type.
