Looking for a Triathlon Training Group in Minneapolis

Triathlon Event  I am a 60 year old woman who is kind of training for my first triathlon. I am a beginner runner and swimmer and my biking is just ok. I am doing this to improve my fitness and to have fun and to feel good. Most of the groups are half my age and I am so far behind that it feels uncomfortable. Any recommendations for where I can fit in in Minneapolis? Thanks.

Jane from Minnesota

Triathlon Event  Hi Jane,
Thank you for contacting TriathaNewbie.com!

You should be thrilled with yourself for starting your triathlon journey at 60. It’s an excellent way to get healthy and having a triathlon as your goal will keep you motivated! We completely understand why you’d like to find a group of people you feel comfortable training with. It can get tough when you’re just starting out and feel like you’re behind the crowd in your training group.

Although we don’t have any first-hand knowledge of a group that caters only to real newbies in Minneapolis, there is a way for you to locate one doing no more than sitting at your computer and making a few phone calls or sending a few emails. Here’s what you do:

    1. Go onto Google and search for “minneapolis triathlon training groups”.
      Here are the results:

1:-Meet up group
2:-YMCA training group

  1. Contact the groups and tell them what you told us. If they are not a good fit for you, ask them to suggest other resources. Where they are in the same city as you, they will have insight into the local scene and be able to point you in the right direction.

  2. If you are still unable to find a group you’re comfortable training with, you can always work with a coach. This might be a great idea even if you do find a group, where you mentioned that your swimming and biking need some work.

  3. Go on our FaceBook page. We post all of our questions/answers there and our “friends” sometimes comment on them. Someone might have a suggestion for you.

Readers: If you’re seeing this post and have any suggestions, please email us or post your answer on our FaceBook page.

Best of luck and please let us know what you end up doing. We’ll post it here so that others, who may be feeling the same way as you, can find a group that fits them perfectly.

Also, please email us once you’ve competed in your first triathlon and we’ll post your story to inspire others.

Be well.
