New to Triathlon Biking
I am planning on competing in my first (sprint) triathlon at the end of August this year. I am an ok runner (I have done a few 5k races) and I’m an excellent swimmer. My husband always jokes that I could swim a 5k faster than I could run it!
My problem is that I have never biked before. I have no idea where to start with this and quite honestly, going that fast is a bit scary for me. All of the beginner triathlon info I find online has to do with swimming. I can’t find anything about where to start with the biking!
Do you have any suggestions for someone who hasn’t ridden a bike since she was 12?

Most people come to us asking questions about the swim because they are much better bikers or runners, so we can completely understand why you are finding more information on the swim rather than the bike and run.
We have two sections on our website that can start you off with to learn more about the bike and run:
- Bike -Learn how to structure bike workouts, find safety tips and read recommendations on great bike gear.
- Run – Get the ultimate skinny on running sneakers, running gear, safety tips and much more.
If you are looking for details on how to train for the bike and run, we have some guides that we recommend you use. All triathletes come in all shapes and sizes which is why we have a list from which you can choose
Triathlon Training Resources–Training guides we recommend for you.
Where this is your first triathlon, it’s always good to use a guide to help you prepare for your tirathlon so that you don’t over or under train.
