Hello, I was wondering what kind of time frame is needed for training before your first triathlon…a year? 6 months? 3 months? Thanks for your time.

Thank you for contacting TriathaNewbie.comn and welcome to the world of mini-triathlons!
We always suggest that a beginner triathlete take 6-9 months to train for their first triathlon. In addition to being able to swim, bike and run properly, you need to have the stamina to do them for roughly two hours or more if you’re aiming for something longer than a sprint/mini-triathlon. We also have a section on our website called Beginner Triathlete Basics to help you find your way.
Here are some training manuals the we recommend:
- Triathlete Magazine’s Complete Triathlon Book: The Training, Diet, Health, Equipment, and Safety Tips You Need to Do Your Best
- Triathloning for Ordinary Mortals: And Doing the Duathlon Too
- Triathlon Swimming Made Easy: The Total Immersion Way for Anyone to Master Open-Water Swimming
- Training Plans for Multisport Athletes: Your Essential Guide to Triathlon, Duathlon, XTERRA, Ironman, and Endurance Racing
Please email with any other questions.
Be well,
Niki
