I am doing my first mini triathlon!!

I am 42 and am just preparing to start training for my first mini tri in September. I have a questions about the swim to bike transition. Do women remove their swimsuits, or put bike/run wear over them?

Hi Pamela,
Thank you for contacting TriathaNewbie.com and welcome to the world of triathlons!
In the first triathlon I did, I laid out underwear and an extra dry towel for privacy so that I could change between my swim and bike. Everyone else just put their clothes over their suit! I followed the crowd, which is always the best thing to do when you don’t have any idea what you’re doing.
Over the years, I found that I actually like to wear only a pair of shorts over my suit because I get hot during the bike and run.
Some things to consider:
-
Weather – If it’s cool, you’ll want to wear a top and shorts, preferably made out of a material that breathes and wicks away the heat from your body
-
For Females – Sometimes swim suits offer very little in the way of supporting our two girls. If you think this might happen, it might be a good idea to either wear a two piece suit with support or wear a tank top over your suit during the bike and run that has a built-in bra.
I hope all of this information is helpful. If you have any other questions, please email.
Let us know how you do and we can use your story to inspire others.
Be well.
Megan
