Wetsuits for Pear-Shaped Women

Triathlon Event  I just bought a shorty wetsuit that fits perfectly on the bottom (I’m VERY pear-shaped) and is snug on the top but when I move my arms I can see gaps in the arm hole, and I’m afraid I will drag water and slow myself down. I haven’t tried it in the water because then I couldn’t return it. Should I return it and get a different suit?

Triathlon Event  Hi Tina,
Thank you for contacting TriathaNewbie.com!

We would definitely return the wetsuit if it doesn’t fit. If you’re lugging a wetsuit filled with water across the ocean, you may feel a bit discouraged by the time you get out of the water. The swim sets the platform for the race and you want to feel good coming out of the water so you can be confident going into the bike and run.

We suggest that you head to a scuba or athletic gear store and buy a two piece wetsuit (vest and shorts). Try them on in the store to make sure both pieces fit. If one part doesn’t fit, talk with the sales person to see if they can switch it out for another size.

Although we posted a link to a wetsuit on the right as an example, we don’t know if it will fit you so please check the sizing before you buy it.

The other thing you can do is google “custom wetsuits” and have one made for you. We found this company online: http://www.liquidfit.com. It’s definitely a more expensive route to take, but we thought we’d throw it out there as an option.

Please let us know what you end up finding. We would love to post it so that our other female readers can find a great wetsuit for their shape.

Be well.
