Ironman Cut-off Times

On a full Ironman how much time is given for each step of the race? How long for the whole thing? Start time and End time. Thanks!

Hi Debora,
Thank you for contacting TriathaNewbie.com!

This is a great question because it brings awareness to the fact that there are cut-off times being adopted in ironman triathlons. The hard part in answering your question is that all races have different cut-off times. We listed two websites as examples:

  • Copied from the Ford Ironman website - The swim is 2.4 miles and the cutoff is 2 hrs. and 20 min., the bike is 112 miles and the cutoff time is 10 hrs and 30 min from the beginning of the race and the run is a full marathon which is 26.2 miles and the cutoff time is 17 hours from the beginning of the race.
  • Copied from the Ironman South Africa website - Wave 1: 08h10 | Wave 2: 08h25 | Wave 3: 08h35 | Wave 4: 08h45 | Wave 5: 08h55

We suggest that you visit the website of the actual race you plan to participate in and research their cut-off times.

Let us know how it goes!

Be well.
